“Google it”
The other day I overheard the following exchange between two women in central London, “Wait, what’s the address of the restaurant?” asked woman one, as her friend sprinted away. “I don’t know, Google it!” replied the harassed, time strapped friend.
I pondered: Google – it really is the brand that has the answer to everything. That ubiquitous home page is our portal to anywhere and everywhere, the fount of all knowledge.
But, where does Google go from here? We have Google Chrome, Google maps, Google +, and now Google TV. The late Steve Jobs said of Google, “It (Google) is dangerously close to becoming another Microsoft – that is, a company that’s spreading itself too thin by trying to do everything.”
So, is Google losing focus, and could it be knocked off its search engine mantle? Google it.
